1999 Diablo Roadster Rebuild
Our latest completed project involved a 1999 Lamborghini Diablo Roadster, finished in Giallo Flash over a Nero interior — a timeless combination that perfectly captures the late-’90s Lamborghini aesthetic. With just over 20,000 miles on the odometer, this car came to us for major mechanical repairs after suffering a clutch failure.
Initial Inspection
The car arrived with what was initially thought to be a blown clutch, but once we began disassembly, it became clear there was more going on beneath the surface. Upon inspection, we found that the reverse, first, and second gear synchronizers inside the gearbox had failed. These worn or damaged synchros were preventing proper gear engagement and likely contributed to the clutch’s premature failure.
Engine and Gearbox Removal
As with most major drivetrain work on a Diablo, we began by removing the engine and transmission assembly. This allowed full access to the clutch components and gearbox internals. The gearbox was then sent out for a complete rebuild, ensuring every gear, bearing, and synchronizer was replaced or refreshed to factory specification.
While the transmission was being rebuilt, we also prepared the engine bay for reinstallation, cleaning and inspecting key components and lines to make sure everything was ready for reassembly.
New Clutch and Supporting Work
Once the gearbox returned, we installed a fresh OEM clutch, maintaining the car’s original feel and drivability. Alongside the clutch replacement, we also replaced several sensors as part of standard preventive maintenance — a worthwhile step on any Diablo to ensure reliability and consistent performance.
Reassembly and Completion
With the transmission rebuilt and the new clutch installed, the engine was reinstalled and all systems tested and verified. After a thorough shakedown, the car is now running and shifting exactly as it should — smooth, precise, and strong through every gear.
A Classic Restored to Form
The 1999 Diablo Roadster remains one of the most iconic open-top Lamborghinis ever built, representing the final evolution of the classic V12 before the Murciélago era. With its drivetrain now fully refreshed and a new clutch in place, this Giallo Flash example is ready to get back on the road — delivering the sound, feel, and excitement that only a naturally aspirated Lamborghini V12 can provide.
