Lamborghini Murcielago Manual Swap

The Lamborghini Murciélago represents one of the last true analog supercars — especially in its early, gated-manual form. By 2008, most Murciélagos were equipped with Lamborghini’s automated e-gear system, which, while advanced for its time, lacks the driver engagement of a true six-speed manual. Our current project aims to fix that.

We’re performing a complete manual conversion on this 2008 Murciélago Roadster finished in Balloon White, transforming it from an e-gear automatic to a fully manual transmission using a European Auto Group (EAG) manual swap kit.

The Goal: Bringing Back Driver Engagement

E-gear was the default choice for most Murciélagos, and as a result, true factory manuals are extremely rare and highly sought after. The EAG conversion provides the next best thing — a factory-quality manual experience using OEM-style components. The goal is to maintain the look, feel, and mechanical precision of Lamborghini’s original gated shifter while dramatically improving driver connection.

What the Swap Involves

This is not a simple bolt-on modification. Converting an e-gear Murciélago to a traditional six-speed involves a complete transformation of the car’s drivetrain and electronics.

The process begins by removing the 6.5-liter V12 engine, which gives us the access needed to properly install the manual hardware and inspect surrounding systems. The full EAG kit includes the gated shifter assembly, clutch and pedal setup, linkages, hydraulics, and necessary wiring and ECU adjustments to ensure the car runs and drives as intended.

While the engine is out, we’ll also take the opportunity to perform a thorough mechanical inspection — checking compression, seals, mounts, and any components that would be difficult to service once the drivetrain is reinstalled.

Precision and Authenticity

The goal is for the finished product to look and function like a factory manual. Every detail — from the polished aluminum shift gate to the clutch feel — must be precise. EAG’s kit is designed to replicate the original Lamborghini six-speed system as closely as possible, right down to the shift pattern and mechanical engagement.

We’ll also be performing software adjustments to properly disable e-gear functions and ensure smooth communication between the ECU and the new manual controls. Once complete, the Roadster will not only deliver the raw experience that enthusiasts crave but also preserve the aesthetic and authenticity expected of a Lamborghini of this caliber.

The Road Ahead

With the engine now out, the manual components are being test-fitted and aligned. Once the mechanical conversion is complete, the engine will be reinstalled, and the car will undergo full testing and calibration to ensure everything performs flawlessly.

The Balloon White exterior gives this Murciélago a timeless look, and once paired with the gated six-speed, it will become one of the most engaging versions of the model possible — combining the drama of a V12 roadster with the satisfaction of a true manual transmission.
